About This Note

The coin you see here is the exact coin you will receive.

A plus coin and as close to a 67 as you'll find. Gorgeous Russet, Magenta, Orange and Blue tones. Super Coin.

The 1878-CC Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS66+ with monster original rainbow toning is one of those coins that stops you cold. The "+" star designation means this example grades at the very top of the MS66 tier: approaching MS67 quality: and the toning is the kind of natural, original color that collectors spend careers searching for and rarely find at this level.

The colors are extraordinary. Rich russet and copper tones at the center of the obverse transition to vivid magenta and violet across the hair and cap, with electric blue and teal blazing at the rim. Orange and gold highlights catch the light from every angle. The reverse matches: golden and teal hues with the same natural, original character. Nearly 150 years of careful storage produced this. You cannot replicate it artificially at this quality, and PCGS would not have graded it MS66+ if there were any question about the originality of the color.

The 1878-CC is the very first year the Carson City Mint struck Morgan Dollars. George T. Morgan's design: Liberty's head facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap with cotton and wheat wreath, LIBERTY on the headband, E PLURIBUS UNUM in a ribbon above, thirteen stars around the border, date 1878 below: debuted at Carson City in this inaugural year. The reverse presents the heraldic eagle with spread wings, arrows and olive branch in its talons, shield on its breast, IN GOD WE TRUST above, and the "CC" mint mark above ONE DOLLAR.

Carson City Mint. .900 fine silver, 26.73 grams. PCGS MS66+, Cert #83142834. The first year. The most beloved mint. Monster rainbow toning. As close to MS67 as you will find. This is the kind of coin that defines a collection.
