Why This Item Is Special
- NGC MS 66+ CAC · Cert #2721113-005: the "+" star designation means this coin grades at the very top of the MS66 tier; the CAC green bean sticker confirms an independent expert agreed it is solid for the grade
- CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation): founded by John Albanese, CAC stickers are awarded only to coins that are solid or premium quality for their assigned grade; a CAC coin commands a premium over non-CAC examples
- Carson City Mint · "CC" mint mark above ONE DOLLAR on reverse · .900 fine silver · 26.73 grams · George T. Morgan design
- Frosty white and extremely clean: blazing cartwheel luster with virtually no contact marks; the surfaces are as fresh as the day this coin left the Carson City Mint in 1880
- The 1880-CC is one of the most popular dates in the Carson City Morgan series: struck during the height of the Nevada silver boom, with strong collector demand for high-grade examples
- The combination of MS66+, CAC verification, and Carson City origin places this coin among the finest known examples of the date: outrageous quality for a frontier mint business strike
- Frosty white and extremely clean. Outrageous.

About This Note

Frosty white and extremely clean. Outrageous.
The 1880-CC Morgan Dollar in NGC MS 66+ with a CAC green bean sticker is the kind of coin that makes experienced collectors stop and stare. The "+" star designation means this example grades at the very top of the MS66 tier: approaching MS67 quality: and the CAC sticker means that John Albanese's team of independent experts examined this coin and agreed: it is solid, premium quality for the grade. A CAC coin is not just graded MS66+. It is verified MS66+.
The surfaces are extraordinary. Blazing cartwheel luster rolls across the coin from every angle, frosty white and brilliant, with virtually no contact marks in the fields or on the devices. The obverse presents Liberty's head in exceptional detail: every wave of hair, every strand of the cotton and wheat wreath on her Phrygian cap, rendered with the full sharpness of a fresh die. The reverse eagle is equally sharp, with fully spread wings, arrows and olive branch in the talons, and the "CC" mint mark above ONE DOLLAR.
The 1880-CC was struck during the height of the Nevada silver boom, when the Carson City Mint was processing enormous quantities of Comstock Lode silver into Morgan Dollars. Carson City coins are prized above all other mint marks in the Morgan series: the frontier mint history, the "CC" mark, and the consistently superior strike quality make them the most collected and most coveted of all Morgan Dollars.
This one is clean. Outrageous. CAC-verified. As close to MS67 as you will find.
