Why This Item Is Special
- PCGS MS64 DMPL · Cert #44075745: DMPL (Deep Mirror Proof-Like) is the highest mirror designation PCGS awards; the fields must reflect objects clearly at a distance of six inches or more, creating a dramatic cameo contrast between the frosted devices and the jet-black mirror fields
- PCGS POP: only 3 graded higher: the 1880-O DMPL is a genuinely rare coin in high grade; the combination of full strike, deep mirrors, and MS64 quality places this coin in the top tier of the entire date
- Full strike: the 1880-O is notorious for weak strikes; a fully struck example with sharp hair detail, sharp eagle feathers, and sharp stars is the exception, not the rule; this coin has it
- Blast white with frosty devices: the Liberty portrait and eagle devices are brilliant white and frosty, creating the classic cameo effect against the deep mirror fields; "across the room mirrors" is not an exaggeration
- New Orleans Mint · "O" mint mark above ONE DOLLAR on reverse · .900 fine silver · 26.73 grams · George T. Morgan design
- An affordable gem without breaking the bank for a 65: the 1880-O DMPL in MS64 offers extraordinary visual impact and genuine rarity at a fraction of the cost of an MS65 DMPL example

About This Note
The coin you see here is the exact coin you will receive.
A wonderful black and white, deep mirror 80-O in 64: SHAZAM. Blast white with frosty devices and across the room mirrors. PCGS POP has this as only 3 graded higher.
Let's talk about what DMPL means. Deep Mirror Proof-Like is the highest mirror designation PCGS awards. To earn it, the fields must reflect objects clearly at a distance of six inches or more: not just a hint of reflectivity, but genuine mirror-like surfaces that create a dramatic cameo contrast between the frosted devices and the jet-black fields. When you hold this coin under a light, Liberty's portrait blazes white against fields that look like polished obsidian. That is what "across the room mirrors" means. You can see the reflection from across the room.
Now add the full strike. The 1880-O is notorious for weak strikes: the New Orleans Mint was not known for careful die preparation, and most 1880-O Morgans show soft hair detail, flat stars, and mushy eagle feathers. This one is fully struck. Every strand of Liberty's hair is sharp. Every feather on the eagle is defined. Every star is fully rendered. A fully struck 1880-O DMPL in MS64 is not a common coin.
PCGS agrees. Only 3 examples have been graded higher in the entire PCGS population. This is a genuine condition rarity: not just a nice coin, but one of the finest known examples of the date in the deep mirror designation.
An affordable gem without breaking the bank for a 65. The visual impact of this coin is indistinguishable from an MS65 DMPL to the naked eye. The price is not.
