A very beautiful note with large margins amid rich bold embossing and sharp corners. As a 65 PPQ this note has it all.
The 1896 $5 Silver Certificate is part of the celebrated "Educational Series": widely regarded as the most artistically beautiful paper money ever issued by the United States. The obverse features an allegorical scene of America presenting a young student to History and Science, rendered in stunning detail by engravers at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The reverse features portraits of Ulysses S. Grant and Philip Sheridan.
The Fr #269 designation identifies this as the standard issue with Small Red Seal. The PCGS Banknote GEM UNC 65 PPQ grade confirms both the gem quality and the Exceptional Paper Quality: original paper with no issues that would otherwise limit the grade.
Educational Series notes in any grade are scarce and highly sought after by collectors of large-size currency. A GEM example like this is genuinely rare and seldom offered.
