This is one of the most extraordinary error currency offerings ever to come to market: a complete, intact, consecutive pack of 100 Series 2017A $2 Federal Reserve Notes from the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank: every single note bearing the Solid/Filled Star error: certified as a unit by PCGS Banknote at Gem Uncirculated 66 PPQ.
The error itself: on a standard star note, both serial number positions end with a hollow five-pointed star (★). On these notes, the star to the right of the upper-right serial number is completely filled in with solid green ink, creating a visually striking "solid star": while the lower-left star retains the correct hollow center. This error has been documented only on $1 and $2 denominations. It is significant enough to have been added to the 5th Edition of United States Paper Money Errors, published by Whitman.
What makes this pack uniquely historic: the overwhelming majority of packs containing this error show only 20-25% of notes affected. A complete pack where all 100 consecutive notes carry the solid star error has never been recorded at public auction. Only one other complete error pack has ever been reported sold: privately, for nearly $10,000: and it was not as well centered as this pack.
Serial range L03463501★ through L03463600★, 100 fully consecutive notes. FW (Fort Worth) L-★ Block. Signed by Carranza and Mnuchin. Original BEP green-stripe "Twos" strap intact, face value $200.
Recent Heritage Auctions comps for individual certified examples (as of January 2025): PMG 68 EPQ: $312 (Feb 2024); PMG 67 EPQ: $312 (Mar 2024); PMG 67 EPQ: $228 (Jul 2024); PMG 64 EPQ: $240 (Oct 2024). At those values, the 100 notes in this pack represent a break-up value of $130-$312 per note: making this an intact trophy pack with substantial built-in value and enormous upside potential.
