Coin, Gold & Bullion Dealers
Near Me in Elberton, GA
Elbert County, GA

If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Elberton, Georgia, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire region.

Elbert County was created in 1790 from Wilkes County, one of the original counties of Georgia, and named for Samuel Elbert, a Revolutionary War general and Governor of Georgia. The town of Elberton was established as the county seat in 1803, and the antebellum families who settled the red clay hills of Elbert County accumulated Liberty Head gold coins, early Bust and Seated Liberty silver, and the obsolete banknotes issued by the Bank of Augusta and the Planters Bank of Georgia that still surface in Elbert County estate sales today. Elbert County's position on the Savannah River and the antebellum cotton trade made Elberton a genuine commercial center in the years before the Civil War, and the county's planter families accumulated significant wealth that was expressed in the silver plate, gold coins, and currency that collectors seek today.

Elberton became known as the Granite Capital of the World in the late 19th century, when the discovery of high-quality blue granite in the surrounding hills transformed the county's economy from agriculture to quarrying and monument manufacturing. The Elberton Granite Association, founded in 1893, became one of the most powerful trade organizations in Georgia, and the granite industry created a prosperous industrial class whose estates regularly include significant numismatic material. The Elbert County National Bank, chartered in 1902, issued national bank notes that are actively collected today by currency specialists nationwide. The granite industry workers and managers saved pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins in patterns that reflected both the cash wages of quarry work and the deep distrust of banks that followed the Panic of 1907 and the Great Depression.

The mid-20th century brought the Georgia Guidestones to Elbert County. The Georgia Guidestones, a mysterious granite monument erected in 1980 by an anonymous donor, became one of the most discussed and controversial landmarks in the United States and brought international attention to Elberton. The monument, which was demolished in 2022 following an explosion, reflected the kind of eccentric, historically engaged culture that characterizes Elbert County and the broader Northeast Georgia region. The granite industry continued to anchor the county's economy through the 20th century, and Elberton maintained its identity as the Granite Capital of the World through every economic cycle.

Today, Elberton is known throughout the world as the Granite Capital, and the city's estate collections reflect that extraordinary layered history: antebellum silver and gold from the plantation era, national bank notes from the Elbert County National Bank, pre-1933 gold coins accumulated during the prosperous granite industry era, and pre-1964 silver coins saved through the mid-century boom. When those collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer Elbert County estate attorneys and families trust. What Makes a Good Coin Dealer?

Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.

Knowledge of Numismatic Value

Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.

Immediate Payment

You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.

What We Buy from Elberton, GA Residents

We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.

Pre-1933 Gold Coins

Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Elbert County estates regularly surface these from the granite industry and cotton eras.

Pre-1964 Silver Coins

Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.

Gold and Silver Bullion

American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.

Rare and Key Date Coins

We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Elberton-area buyers miss entirely.

Currency and Banknotes

Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, obsolete banknotes, and Elbert County national bank notes.

Gold and Silver Jewelry

14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, old mine cut diamonds, and gold watches at fair market prices.

Estate Collections

We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Elbert County estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.

PCGS and NGC Graded Coins

We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.

In Elbert County, Clemson Coins actively purchases pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Elbert County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware. If you have inherited a set of sterling flatware, a silver tea service, or individual sterling pieces, we pay full melt value and more for recognized patterns.

Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.

If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Elbert County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"On a whim I decided to stop in with some old gold necklaces that I had been holding on to. I had a few things to pop up (like a vet bill) that I wasn't prepared for. Joe gave me top dollar for my things and I just couldn't be more grateful than I am right now! Thank you Clemson Coins!"

"With all the hype around Whatnot, TikTok auctions, and online coin sales these days, it's refreshing to have a trusted local coin shop right here in South Carolina that's been in business long before any of those platforms even existed. I've done business with the owner and have always had a great experience. The knowledge, honesty, and inventory are hard to beat. If you've been searching eBay, Whatnot, or online auction sites and can't seem to find what you're looking for, there's a good chance these guys got it. Trust me. Whether you're into coins, currency, bullion, or collectibles, Clemson Coins is the kind of place that's built its reputation the old-fashioned way through years of experience and treating customers right. Highly recommended."

"I had a great experience at Clemson Coins, Currency, Bullion & Jewelry and highly recommend them to anyone looking to sell gold. I came in with an 18K gold necklace and honestly didn't know what to expect, but the whole process was smooth, and professional from start to finish. They weighed everything in front of me, and gave me a very fair price based on the current market. What really stood out was how respectful and straightforward they were. You can tell they value honesty and customer trust. I also compared offers, and theirs was one of the best in the area. If you're in the Clemson/Pendleton area and want a reliable place to sell gold, this is definitely the spot to go. I'd come back again without hesitation."

"After sending an email, regarding the sale of some personal coins, I was advised to come by the store. For those that seem upset about not getting 'ballpark' offers on the phone, let's be real. If you're not a professional, you can't possibly know what the owner is looking for. To spend hours on the phone, going over dates, condition, etc. Just stop in. The owner is very straight forward. He doesn't want to waste his time or yours. His offer was fair and quick. If you are trying to sell, then realize this is a business, for profit. It may not be top price, in your expectation, but it is top in resale. I will be returning for future endeavors. Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your time and fairness."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
