Coin, Gold & Bullion Dealers
Near Me in Landrum, SC
Spartanburg County, SC

If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Landrum, South Carolina, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire Upstate region.

Landrum sits in the southern foothills of Spartanburg County, where the Blue Ridge escarpment meets the Carolina Piedmont. The land was part of the original Cherokee hunting grounds ceded in the 1777 Treaty of DeWitt's Corner, and the first permanent settlers arrived in the 1790s, drawn by the fertile bottomlands along the North Pacolet River. The town itself was incorporated in 1880 and named for John Gill Landrum, a Baptist minister and historian who documented the early settlement of the Upstate with a thoroughness that made his work a foundational source for South Carolina history. By the 1890s, the Southern Railway had established a depot here, connecting the foothills community to Spartanburg and Asheville and making Landrum a modest but active trading center for the surrounding farms and timber operations. The Scots-Irish families who settled the North Pacolet valley brought with them a tradition of thrift and coin accumulation that expressed itself in gold and silver savings passed down through generations, and the relative isolation of the foothills community meant that those collections stayed with families long after they would have been spent or dispersed in more urban settings.

The textile era transformed Landrum just as it did every Spartanburg County community. The Landrum Cotton Mill, established in 1901, drew workers from the surrounding farms and created the kind of stable, cash-earning household economy that produced the coin and currency accumulations we still encounter in estate collections today. Mill families saved pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and early twentieth-century paper currency in ways that reflected both thrift and a distrust of banks following the Panic of 1907 and the Great Depression. The Landrum National Bank, chartered in 1903, issued national bank notes that are now collectible currency sought by specialists nationwide.

The mid-twentieth century brought change to Landrum as the textile mills consolidated and eventually closed. The community reinvented itself around agriculture, equestrian culture, and the scenic appeal of the Blue Ridge foothills. The Tryon area just across the North Carolina line became a nationally recognized equestrian destination, and Landrum benefited from the proximity. The Tryon International Equestrian Center, one of the premier equestrian facilities in the world, draws competitors and spectators from across the globe and has made the Landrum-Tryon corridor a destination for affluent families whose estate collections reflect that accumulated prosperity.

Today Landrum's estate collections reflect that layered history: textile-era savings, national bank notes from the Landrum National Bank, pre-1933 gold coins accumulated during the prosperous 1920s, and silver coins saved through the mid-twentieth century. When those collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer Spartanburg County estate attorneys and families trust. We are the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the Upstate, and the 55-minute drive from Landrum via I-26 West and SC-11 consistently produces offers that far exceed what sellers find locally. What Makes a Good Coin Dealer?

Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.

Knowledge of Numismatic Value

Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.

Immediate Payment

You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.

What We Buy Near Landrum, SC

We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.

Pre-1933 Gold Coins

Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Spartanburg County estates regularly surface these from the textile era.

Pre-1964 Silver Coins

Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight, on every date and grade.

Gold and Silver Bullion

American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds. We pay strong premiums over spot on all bullion.

Rare and Key Date Coins

We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Landrum-area buyers miss entirely. Bring in anything you are unsure about.

Currency and Banknotes

Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, and national bank notes from Spartanburg County institutions.

Gold and Silver Jewelry

14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, gold watches, and estate jewelry purchased at fair market value.

Estate Collections

We purchase entire collections in one transaction with no cherry-picking. Spartanburg County estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.

PCGS and NGC Graded Coins

We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what each coin is worth.

From Landrum and Spartanburg County estates, we regularly purchase: pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Spartanburg County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware.

Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.

If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Spartanburg County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"I really appreciated Mr. Joe's professional approach! He was very knowledgeable and didn't mind taking the time to explain things. He was thorough, but with no 'high pressure' to proceed. He and his staff were easy to deal with."

"Our dog was attacked and needed an emergency surgery totaling over $4k. We called Clemson Coins and decided it's worth a visit, I have never sold or pawned anything so this was my first experience. Everybody at Clemson Coin seemed to be knowledgeable and helpful, it was a Saturday and the place was pretty busy. Joe asked a few questions about our dog since he is a dog lover, he gave me an estimate, it was fair and the transaction was smooth and straightforward. We went there trying to turn Gold into Cash, and it worked out perfectly fine. Highly recommended! P.S. I think Deena and Pebbles would have given me a better rate. LOL"

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins -- let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

"In closing my parents estate, I discovered old coins my late father had collected. I had no idea what to do and trashing was not an option. I came across Clemson Coins through a Google search and gave it a try. I met Joe and his beautiful wife and both security dogs. Joe was sincere, gracious, honest and very knowledgeable. After looking at my collection of coins, he offered me a number and I was shocked. Joe's heart is in what he does and I could tell. He could have swindled me. Today, I came across an honest businessman and I highly recommend Joe and the business he and his wife have built."

"For a 1st time buyer, they were extremely helpful with helping pick out some metals for gifts, and had a good selection of different pieces to fit the occasion. The price was fair from what I could see as they were only a few dollars above the current market rates you can find online as you would expect from a brick and mortar exchange. I will definitely be back for future needs."
