Winder, Georgia is the county seat of Barrow County, one of Georgia's newest counties, formed in 1914 from portions of Jackson, Walton, and Gwinnett counties. The county was named for David Crenshaw Barrow, a chancellor of the University of Georgia, and the town of Winder itself was named for Confederate General John H. Winder, the provost marshal general of the Confederacy who oversaw prisoner of war operations. The Seaboard Air Line Railroad made Winder a significant cotton shipping hub in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the cotton economy generated substantial wealth among the farming families of the Piedmont. The earliest coins to circulate in what would become Barrow County were Capped Bust and early Seated Liberty pieces brought by settlers from the older Georgia counties to the east and south.
The cotton and textile economy of Barrow County produced a merchant and farming class whose estate collections still surface in Winder today. The Barrow County National Bank and other local institutions issued national bank notes that are actively collected by currency specialists, and the First National Bank of Winder notes are among the most sought-after in the Northeast Georgia region. The railroad era brought a steady flow of commerce and coinage through the county, and the tradition of keeping hard money outside the banking system was strong among the farming families of the Georgia Piedmont. Pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins accumulated by the cotton families of Barrow County represent some of the finest estate collections in Northeast Georgia.
Fort Yargo State Park, established around the 1792 blockhouse built by the Humphries family during the Creek Indian conflicts, anchors the outdoor recreation heritage of Barrow County. The park draws visitors from across the Atlanta metropolitan area and has made Winder a destination for weekend recreation. The growing Atlanta commuter community that has developed in Barrow County since the 1990s has brought a new wave of residents whose estate collections reflect both the old farming heritage and the newer suburban wealth of the I-85 corridor.
Today, Winder is a rapidly growing Atlanta commuter community, and the surrounding Barrow County farmland continues to yield estate collections from families who accumulated coins and currency across multiple generations. When Barrow County estate collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer that estate attorneys and families trust. We are the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the region, and the approximately 1 hour 40 minute drive from Winder via I-85 South makes us the most credentialed serious coin buyer accessible to Barrow County. Most coin dealers and pawn shops pay only melt value. A true numismatist knows that a key date coin, a 1916-D Mercury Dime, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Barrow County farming and estate collections regularly surface these from the early 20th century.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Atlanta-area buyers miss entirely.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, obsolete banknotes, and Barrow County national bank notes.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, old mine cut diamonds, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Barrow County estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.
We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.
In Barrow County, Clemson Coins actively purchases pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Barrow County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware. If you have inherited a set of sterling flatware, a silver tea service, or individual sterling pieces, we pay full melt value and more for recognized patterns.
Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.
If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Barrow County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"I drove over an hour to visit this coin shop, and it was absolutely worth it. Joe, the owner, was honest, knowledgeable, and gave very fair prices. After checking buy prices all over South Carolina, his shop had the best rates I could find for both silver and gold. There was no pressure at all, and the entire experience was straightforward and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommended."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

"Great place! I've gone in several times and found some really cool stuff. They have anything you could want at a really good price! I've gone in for different historical coins for my collection but have also purchased rare metals coins from them and they are very fair with the pricing. Additionally they are very helpful and will answer any questions you have about coins, you can tell they want to help you out! Highly recommend!"
