Bartow County, GA

Bartow County was formed in 1832 from Cherokee County and originally named Cass County after Lewis Cass, Secretary of War under President Jackson. The county was renamed Bartow in 1861 to honor Confederate General Francis Stebbins Bartow, who was killed at the First Battle of Bull Run and became one of the first Confederate officers to die in battle. Cartersville, the county seat, sits along the Etowah River in the Great Valley of the Appalachians, and the county's early history is defined by the remarkable Etowah Indian Mounds, one of the most significant pre-Columbian archaeological sites in the eastern United States. The earliest coins to circulate in Cartersville were Capped Bust and Seated Liberty pieces brought by the settlers who arrived following the Cherokee removal of 1838.

The Western and Atlantic Railroad came through Cartersville in the 1840s, connecting the town to Atlanta and Chattanooga and transforming it into a significant commercial center. The First National Bank of Cartersville issued national bank notes during the National Banking Era, and these notes from Cartersville institutions are among the most sought-after by Georgia currency collectors today. The iron and manganese mining industries that developed in Bartow County during the late 19th century brought industrial prosperity to the region, and the families who managed the mines and operated the supporting businesses accumulated pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins in quantities that still surface in estate sales.

The Etowah Indian Mounds, which were occupied from approximately 1000 to 1550 AD, represent one of the most important archaeological sites in the American Southeast and draw visitors and researchers from across the country. The mounds are located just outside Cartersville and are now a Georgia state historic site. The county's rich archaeological and historical heritage has made Cartersville a destination for history enthusiasts, and the estate collections that surface here often include coins and currency accumulated by families with deep roots in the region's commercial and industrial history.

Today, Cartersville is a growing Atlanta suburb with a strong commercial and residential economy, and Bartow County continues to attract families and retirees drawn by the quality of life and proximity to Atlanta. When Bartow County estate collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer that estate attorneys and families trust. Knowledge of Numismatic Value

Most coin dealers and pawn shops pay only melt value. A true numismatist knows that a national bank note from Cartersville, a 1916-D Mercury Dime, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them.

Immediate Payment

You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day.

"I drove over an hour to visit this coin shop, and it was absolutely worth it. Joe, the owner, was honest, knowledgeable, and gave very fair prices. After checking buy prices all over South Carolina, his shop had the best rates I could find for both silver and gold. There was no pressure at all, and the entire experience was straightforward and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommended."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
