If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Hartwell, Georgia, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire region.
Hart County was created in 1853 from portions of Franklin and Elbert Counties, making it one of the younger counties in the Georgia Piedmont. The county was named for Nancy Hart, the Revolutionary War heroine whose log cabin stood near the Broad River in what is now Elbert County, and whose legend of capturing Tory soldiers during the Revolution made her one of the most celebrated figures in Georgia history. The town of Hartwell was established as the county seat in 1856, and the antebellum families who settled the red clay hills of Hart County brought with them the Liberty Head gold coins, early Bust and Seated Liberty silver, and the obsolete banknotes issued by the Bank of Augusta and the Planters Bank of Georgia that still surface in Hart County estate sales today. The county's proximity to the Savannah River and the antebellum cotton trade made Hartwell a modest but genuine commercial center in the years before the Civil War.
The railroad era transformed Hart County beginning in the 1870s. The Elberton Air Line Railroad, completed through Hartwell in 1877, connected the county to the broader Georgia rail network and made Hartwell a shipping point for the cotton and granite produced in the surrounding area. The Hart County National Bank, chartered in 1902, issued national bank notes that are actively collected today by currency specialists nationwide. The textile era arrived in the early 20th century with the establishment of the Hartwell Cotton Mill in 1904, and the mill families who worked there saved pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins in patterns that reflected both the cash wages of mill work and the deep distrust of banks that followed the Panic of 1907 and the Great Depression.
The mid-20th century brought Lake Hartwell to Hart County. The Hartwell Dam, constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1962, created Lake Hartwell on the Savannah River, and the reservoir transformed the county's economy from agriculture and textiles to tourism and recreation. The lake attracted retirees and vacation-home owners from across the Southeast, and the influx of affluent newcomers beginning in the 1960s brought new estate collections into the Hart County market. Hartwell's position on US-29, the old Dixie Highway, made it a natural stopping point for travelers between Atlanta and the Carolinas, and the town maintained a stable commercial identity through the economic transitions of the late 20th century.
Today, Hart County is known throughout the Southeast for Lake Hartwell, one of the most popular recreational lakes in the region, and for its position at the crossroads of the Georgia and South Carolina Piedmont. Hart County estate collections reflect that layered history: antebellum silver and gold from the cotton era, national bank notes from the Hart County National Bank, pre-1933 gold coins accumulated during the prosperous 1920s, and pre-1964 silver coins saved through the mill era. When those collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer Hart County estate attorneys and families trust. We are the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the region, and the approximately 30-minute drive from Hartwell via US-29 North makes us the closest serious coin buyer to Hart County. A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:
Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.
We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Hart County estates regularly surface these from the cotton and textile eras.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Hartwell-area buyers miss entirely.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, obsolete banknotes, and Hart County national bank notes.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, old mine cut diamonds, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Hart County estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.
We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.
In Hart County, Clemson Coins actively purchases pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Hart County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware. If you have inherited a set of sterling flatware, a silver tea service, or individual sterling pieces, we pay full melt value and more for recognized patterns.
Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.
If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Hart County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"I drove over an hour to visit this coin shop, and it was absolutely worth it. Joe, the owner, was honest, knowledgeable, and gave very fair prices. After checking buy prices all over South Carolina, his shop had the best rates I could find for both silver and gold. There was no pressure at all, and the entire experience was straightforward and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommended."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

I've gone in for different historical coins for my collection but have also purchased rare metals coins from them and they are very fair with the pricing. Additionally they are very helpful and will answer any questions you have about coins, you can tell they want to help you out! Highly recommend!"
