If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Clover, South Carolina, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire region.
Clover is a town in York County, South Carolina, situated in the southwestern corner of the county near the North Carolina state line. The area was settled by Scots-Irish and English families in the 1760s and 1770s following the end of the Cherokee War, and the land that would become Clover was part of the broader York District agricultural economy centered on cotton and subsistence farming. The town of Clover was incorporated in 1887, its growth driven by the arrival of the Seaboard Air Line Railway, which made Clover a shipping point for the cotton produced in the surrounding farms. The antebellum families who farmed the Clover area accumulated Liberty Head gold coins, early Bust and Seated Liberty silver, and the obsolete banknotes issued by the Bank of Chester and the Catawba Bank of South Carolina that still surface in York County estate sales today.
The textile era transformed Clover beginning in the 1890s. The Clover Cotton Mill, established in 1896, was the first major industrial employer in the town and anchored the mill village that grew up around it. The mill drew workers from the surrounding farms and created the kind of cash-wage economy that produced significant coin and currency accumulations. The Clover National Bank, chartered in 1902, issued national bank notes that are actively collected today by currency specialists nationwide. The Springs family's textile empire, centered in nearby Fort Mill and Rock Hill, extended its influence throughout York County and created a prosperous industrial class whose estates regularly include significant numismatic material.
The mid-20th century brought consolidation and change to Clover. The Clover Cotton Mill merged with larger textile operations and eventually closed, and the town diversified its economy around small manufacturing, agriculture, and the growing Charlotte metropolitan area. Clover's proximity to Lake Wylie, the reservoir created by the Catawba River hydroelectric system in the 1920s, made the area attractive to Charlotte-area residents seeking waterfront property, and the influx of affluent newcomers beginning in the 1980s brought new estate collections into the local market. The Clover School District, one of the most highly regarded in York County, anchored the community's identity through the economic transitions of the late 20th century.
Today, Clover is one of the fastest-growing communities in York County, driven by its proximity to Charlotte and the appeal of its small-town character and Lake Wylie waterfront. Clover-area estate collections reflect that layered history: antebellum silver and gold from the farming era, national bank notes from the Clover National Bank, pre-1933 gold coins accumulated during the Springs Industries era, and pre-1964 silver coins saved through the mill era. When those collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer York County estate attorneys and families trust. We are the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the region, and the approximately 1 hour 30 minute drive from Clover via I-85 North and SC-55 consistently produces offers that far exceed what sellers find locally. Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.
A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:
Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.
We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Clover-area estates regularly surface these from the cotton and textile mill eras.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Clover-area buyers miss entirely.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, obsolete banknotes, and York County national bank notes.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, old mine cut diamonds, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Clover-area estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.
We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.
From Clover and York County estates, we regularly purchase: pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from York County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware.
Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.
If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in York County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins -- let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
