Coin, Gold & Bullion Dealers
Near Me in Murphy, NC
Cherokee County, NC

If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Murphy, North Carolina, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire Upstate region.

Murphy was established in 1851 as the seat of Cherokee County, the westernmost county in North Carolina, named for the Cherokee Nation whose ancestral homeland covered the surrounding mountains. The town grew on the site of Fort Butler, a U.S. Army post built in 1836 during the forced removal of the Cherokee people. The Murphy Branch of the Western North Carolina Railroad reached the town in 1891, opening Cherokee County's copper mines and timber reserves to commercial exploitation. The Ducktown and Copperhill copper mining district, just across the Tennessee border, brought miners and capital into the region in the late 1800s. The old mining and timber families of Cherokee County accumulated pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and fine jewelry across generations. Today Murphy is a gateway to the Nantahala National Forest and the Hiwassee River, with a steady stream of estate sales as longtime Cherokee County families settle affairs. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is 1 hour 45 minutes east via US-74, and Cherokee County sellers make the drive because the difference in what they receive is significant.

Through the twentieth century Murphy remained a small county seat serving the agricultural and timber economy of Cherokee County, one of the most remote corners of North Carolina. The families who farmed and logged these mountains accumulated coins, silver, and jewelry across generations, and Cherokee County estate sales regularly surface pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coinage from families with deep mountain roots.

Today Murphy is a retirement destination and outdoor recreation hub, with the Hiwassee and Valley Rivers drawing anglers and kayakers from across the Southeast. The town's growing retiree population and the steady turnover of longtime Cherokee County families have created a consistent flow of estate material, including pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, and sterling silver flatware.

Cherokee County's history as the westernmost corner of North Carolina, with deep roots in Cherokee heritage and mountain farming, means that estates here often contain coins and silver accumulated across many generations. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is roughly two and a half hours east via US-74, and Murphy sellers who make the trip consistently find that our offers far exceed what they received locally. We pay more, always.

What Makes a Good Coin Dealer?

Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.

Credentials and Affiliations

A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:

PCGS Authorized Dealer
NGC Authorized Dealer

Knowledge of Numismatic Value

Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.

Immediate Payment

You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.

What We Buy from Murphy, NC Residents

Cherokee County's copper mining heritage and mountain isolation produced distinctive estate collections, including pre-1933 gold coins accumulated by mining families, gold jewelry from the Hiwassee River valley community, and pre-1964 silver coins passed down through generations of Cherokee County farming families.

We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.

Pre-1933 Gold Coins

Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Cherokee County estates regularly surface these from the copper mining and railroad wealth of the late 1800s.

Pre-1964 Silver Coins

Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.

Gold and Silver Bullion

American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.

Rare and Key Date Coins

We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Cherokee County buyers miss entirely.

Currency and Banknotes

Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, and obsolete banknotes from Cherokee County national bank issues.

Gold and Silver Jewelry

14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, and gold watches at fair market prices.

Estate Collections

We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Cherokee County estate attorneys refer clients to us.

PCGS and NGC Graded Coins

We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.

Cherokee County coin types we buy: Pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, Morgan and Peace dollars, national bank notes from the Murphy National Bank and Cherokee County Bank, Confederate currency, American Gold and Silver Eagles, proof and mint sets, key-date coins, and sterling silver flatware from Cherokee County estates.

Cherokee County estate collections reflect the copper mining and farming heritage of the Valley River valley. Mining and farming families accumulated pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins across generations, and the county's relative isolation preserved collections that more urbanized counties lost to spending.

Cherokee County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the expertise to pay numismatic value and the financial strength to close the deal the same day.

We Pay More, ALWAYS!

Why Sellers from Murphy Choose Us

Cherokee County's copper mining and timber heritage left behind estate collections that reflect the industrial wealth of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Families who worked the copper mines and the surrounding timber operations accumulated pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and fine jewelry that passed through generations largely untouched. Sellers from Murphy make the drive to Pendleton alongside neighbors from Franklin, Bryson City, and Cherokee, all of whom find that the difference in what they receive at Clemson Coins versus any local option is real and substantial. Cherokee County estate attorneys refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the expertise to pay numismatic value and the financial strength to close the same day.

Clemson Coins is the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the Upstate, and the only dealer in the region with the full suite of credentials that serious collectors and estate attorneys look for when they need a buyer they can trust. Cherokee County estate attorneys regularly refer clients to us because we have the knowledge to identify key-date coins and the financial strength to pay for them immediately. "JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
