Coin, Gold & Bullion Dealers
Near Me in Gastonia, NC
Gaston County, NC

If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Gastonia, North Carolina, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire region.

Gastonia was established in 1877 as the seat of Gaston County, carved from Lincoln County in the years following the Civil War. The town took its name from William Gaston, a North Carolina jurist and U.S. Congressman who served in the early nineteenth century. The earliest settlers in what would become Gaston County were Scots-Irish and German families who arrived in the mid-1700s, many of them pushing south from Pennsylvania along the Great Wagon Road. These families farmed the Piedmont lands along the South Fork Catawba River and accumulated the first coins and currency to circulate in the region, including early American large cents, Bust half dollars, and Spanish milled dollars that remained in common use well into the 1830s.

Gastonia's industrial identity was forged in cotton. The Gastonia Cotton Manufacturing Company, established in 1887, was among the first of dozens of mills that would make Gaston County the leading textile-producing county in the United States by the early twentieth century. Mill families such as the Loves, the Stowes, and the Linebergers built fortunes in cotton and accumulated pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and fine jewelry that passed through generations largely untouched. The First National Bank of Gastonia, chartered in 1887, issued national bank notes that are now highly collectible and surface regularly in Gaston County estate sales.

The twentieth century brought labor conflict and transformation to Gastonia. The Loray Mill Strike of 1929 made national headlines and marked the beginning of a long decline in the textile industry that accelerated through the 1970s and 1980s. As mills closed, Gastonia diversified into manufacturing, healthcare, and distribution. Gaston College, established in 1963, anchored the county's educational life and helped attract new industries to the area. The old mill families and their descendants continued to hold the coins and currency accumulated across generations.

Today Gastonia is a growing city in the Charlotte metropolitan area, and estate sales from longtime Gaston County families bring a steady stream of pre-1933 gold, pre-1964 silver, national bank notes, and fine jewelry to market. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is 1 hour 20 minutes south via I-85, and Gaston County sellers make the drive because the difference in what they receive is significant. We are the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the region, and every seller from Gastonia has left with more than they were offered locally.

Knowledge of Numismatic Value

Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.

Immediate Payment

You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
