If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Lenoir, North Carolina, the options are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire Upstate region.
Lenoir was established in 1841 as the seat of Caldwell County, named for General William Lenoir, a Revolutionary War officer who served at the Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780. The town grew as a furniture manufacturing center in the late 1800s, when the Lenoir Chair Company and other furniture makers established operations that would make Caldwell County one of the leading furniture-producing counties in North Carolina. The Caldwell and Northern Railroad, completed in 1895, connected Lenoir to the broader regional economy and opened the county's timber resources to commercial exploitation. The old furniture manufacturing families of Caldwell County accumulated pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and fine jewelry across generations, much of it stored in estate homes along the Johns River. Caldwell Community College, established in 1964, anchored the county's educational life through the late twentieth century. Today Lenoir is a small city with a manufacturing heritage and a steady stream of estate sales as longtime Caldwell County families settle affairs. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is 1 hour 40 minutes west via US-321, and Caldwell County sellers make the drive because the difference in what they receive is significant.
Through the twentieth century Lenoir became the furniture capital of the South, with the Broyhill, Bernhardt, and Caldwell Furniture companies employing thousands of Caldwell County residents and generating significant local wealth. The furniture industry families who built Lenoir accumulated coins, silver, and jewelry across generations, and their estates regularly surface pre-1933 gold coins and sterling silver flatware.
Today Lenoir is navigating the decline of the furniture industry with new economic development initiatives, including a major Google data center that opened in 2009. The city's combination of old furniture-era wealth and newer economic development has created a steady flow of estate material, and Caldwell County estate sales regularly surface pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, and sterling silver flatware.
Caldwell County's history as a furniture manufacturing powerhouse means that estates here often contain coins and silver accumulated by families who built significant wealth in the industry. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is roughly two hours south via US-321 and I-85, and Lenoir sellers who make the trip consistently find that our offers exceed what they received locally. We pay more because we know what things are worth.

Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.
A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:
Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.
Caldwell County's furniture manufacturing heritage and Johns River valley history produced distinctive estate collections, including pre-1933 gold coins accumulated by furniture mill families, gold jewelry from the Lenoir resort community, and pre-1964 silver coins passed down through generations of Caldwell County farming families.
We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Caldwell County estates regularly surface these from the furniture manufacturing wealth of the late 1800s.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Caldwell County buyers miss entirely.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, and obsolete banknotes from the Caldwell County banking era.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Caldwell County estate attorneys refer clients to us.
We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.
Caldwell County coin types we buy: Pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, Morgan and Peace dollars, national bank notes from the Lenoir National Bank and Caldwell County Bank, Confederate currency, American Gold and Silver Eagles, proof and mint sets, key-date coins, and sterling silver flatware from Caldwell County estates.
Caldwell County estate collections reflect the furniture manufacturing heritage of Lenoir. Furniture mill families accumulated pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins across generations, and estate sales today regularly surface national bank notes and Confederate currency that local buyers overlook.
Caldwell County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the expertise to pay numismatic value and the financial strength to close the deal the same day.

Caldwell County's furniture manufacturing and timber heritage left behind estate collections that reflect the industrial wealth of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Families who built the furniture industry along the Johns River accumulated pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coins, and fine jewelry that passed through generations largely untouched. Sellers from Lenoir make the drive to Pendleton alongside neighbors from Morganton, Marion, and Shelby, all of whom find that the difference in what they receive at Clemson Coins versus any local option is real and substantial. Caldwell County estate attorneys refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the expertise to pay numismatic value and the financial strength to close the same day.
Clemson Coins is the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the Upstate, and the only dealer in the region with the full suite of credentials that serious collectors and estate attorneys look for when they need a buyer they can trust. Caldwell County estate attorneys regularly refer clients to us because we have the knowledge to identify key-date coins and the financial strength to pay for them immediately. "JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

"Come see my man Joe. Was not expecting the integrity and honesty when I walked in. As usual, when you walk into a place and think the worst. Totally opposite of what I was expecting!! Great guy!! Great atmosphere! Wonderful people. Had some gold and coins I needed to off because I was in pinch. I am most definitely coming back to restock! Go see Joe and Terry!! A MUST!!"
