If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Johnson City, Tennessee, Washington County's options do not match our credentials or buying power. Clemson Coins in Pendleton, SC is the highest buyer and the most credentialed dealer in the entire region.
Johnson City is the largest city in Washington County, Tennessee, and the commercial and cultural center of the Tri-Cities region. The city traces its origins to the 1850s when Henry Johnson established a store and post office along the East Tennessee and Virginia Railroad, and the community that grew around that junction became a significant commercial hub for the surrounding mountain counties. Johnson City's location at the convergence of several rail lines made it a natural distribution point for the agricultural and industrial products of Northeast Tennessee, and the families who built the city's early economy accumulated gold coins, silver flatware, and currency that has passed through generations of Washington County estates.
The twentieth century brought significant growth to Johnson City, anchored by the establishment of East Tennessee State University in 1911 and the expansion of the medical and manufacturing sectors that followed. The city became a regional center for healthcare, education, and commerce, and the professional families who settled in Washington County during this period accumulated savings that, for many, took the form of pre-1964 silver coinage and pre-1933 gold coins now surfacing in estate sales across the Tri-Cities area.
Today Johnson City is a thriving community of approximately 70,000 residents, with the broader Tri-Cities metropolitan area exceeding 500,000 people. The presence of East Tennessee State University and its medical school, combined with the region's growing reputation as a destination for retirees and outdoor enthusiasts, has brought generations of collectors and professionals whose accumulated wealth now needs a serious, credentialed buyer.
Despite Johnson City's size and prosperity, Washington County's coin dealers do not have the credentials or buying power of Clemson Coins, just over 2 hours away in Pendleton, South Carolina. Sellers from Johnson City and the surrounding Tri-Cities area make the drive because the difference in what they receive is real and significant. Washington County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the expertise to pay numismatic value and the financial strength to close the deal the same day. Clemson Coins Pays The Most, ALWAYS!

The difference between melt value and numismatic value can be thousands of dollars. A 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent is worth far more than its silver content to a knowledgeable buyer. Most Washington County dealers pay melt. We pay what coins are actually worth.
We pay cash or check the same day, every time. No waiting for consignment sales, no delayed payment, no stories. Washington County sellers who have dealt with other buyers consistently tell us the same thing: Clemson Coins paid more and paid immediately.
Washington County families have accumulated generations of coins, currency, and precious metals. Whether you have a single coin or an entire estate collection, we look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.
Liberty Head, Saint-Gaudens, Indian Head -- all denominations. Full numismatic value paid.
Morgan and Peace dollars, Walking Liberty halves, Mercury dimes, Standing Liberty quarters.
American Eagles, Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, bars and rounds -- all sizes and weights.
1916-D Mercury Dime, 1909-S VDB, 1921 Peace Dollar and all key dates across every series.
Large size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, national bank notes, Confederate currency.
We purchase complete collections and estates in a single transaction. No cherry-picking.
All karats of gold, sterling silver, platinum. Weighed and priced at current spot.
Complete and partial sets, serving pieces, hollowware. Paid by weight at current silver spot.
Washington County estate collections reflect the region's railroad heritage and Appalachian history. Washington County estates regularly surface pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Washington County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware. Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars. Washington County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us regularly because we have the expertise to pay full value and the financial strength to close the deal the same day. Clemson Coins, We Pay More, ALWAYS!
No appointment needed. Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Bring your coins, currency, or collection.

Johnson City is one of Northeast Tennessee's most prosperous cities, but Washington County's coin dealers still do not match our credentials or buying power. Sellers from Johnson City and the surrounding Tri-Cities area make the drive to Pendleton because the difference in what they receive is real and significant. Neighboring communities like Kingsport, TN and Greeneville, TN face the same situation -- no local dealer with the expertise to pay numismatic value on key-date coins, rare currency, or estate-quality collections. Washington County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us when a collection needs a buyer with the financial strength to close the deal the same day.
Every seller from Johnson City left with more than they were offered locally. Sellers from Morristown, TN and Knoxville, TN make the same calculation -- the drive to Pendleton is the most profitable decision they make. Whether you have a single pre-1933 gold coin, a box of pre-1964 silver coins, or an entire estate collection assembled by a Washington County professional or retiree, we have the expertise to recognize what you have and the buying power to pay you what it is worth. "Our dog was attacked and needed an emergency surgery totaling over $4k. We called Clemson Coins and decided it's worth a visit, I have never sold or pawned anything so this was my first experience. Everybody at Clemson Coin seemed to be knowledgeable and helpful, it was a Saturday and the place was pretty busy. Joe asked a few questions about our dog since he is a dog lover, he gave me an estimate, it was fair and the transaction was smooth and straightforward. We went there trying to turn Gold into Cash, and it worked out perfectly fine. Highly recommended! P.S. I think Deena and Pebbles would have given me a better rate. LOL"

"I had an excellent experience with this establishment. The customer service was outstanding, and the trade-in value offered for my silver coins exceeded my expectations. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and professionally presented. They offer a diverse selection of silver coins, gold bullion, older currency, and collectible coins. I would highly recommend their services to anyone seeking fair pricing and a reputable business."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

"In closing my parents estate, I discovered old coins my late father had collected. I had no idea what to do and trashing was not an option. I came across Clemson Coins through a Google search and gave it a try. I met Joe and his beautiful wife and both security dogs. Joe was sincere, gracious, honest and very knowledgeable. After looking at my collection of coins, he offered me a number and I was shocked. Joe's heart is in what he does and I could tell. He could have swindled me. Today, I came across an honest businessman and I highly recommend Joe and the business he and his wife have built."

"I really appreciated Mr. Joe's professional approach! He was very knowledgeable and didn't mind taking the time to explain things. He was thorough, but with no 'high pressure' to proceed. He and his staff were easy to deal with."

"For a 1st time buyer, they were extremely helpful with helping pick out some metals for gifts, and had a good selection of different pieces to fit the occasion. The price was fair from what I could see as they were only a few dollars above the current market rates you can find online as you would expect from a brick and mortar exchange. I will definitely be back for future needs."
Many customers have told us they visited a local Johnson City dealer first, received a number, then made the drive to Pendleton and walked out with significantly more money. We hear that story regularly from Washington County sellers.

Most coin dealers and gold buyers in the Johnson City area pay only melt value. Clemson Coins pays full numismatic value on coins that deserve it. We are PCGS, NGC, CAC, and CACG authorized dealers. A Washington County seller recently brought us a collection that a local dealer had offered melt value on -- we recognized several key-date coins and paid substantially more.
Occasional coin shows occur in the Tri-Cities area, but show dealers typically pay less than a full-time shop because they have limited capital and must cover travel expenses. Clemson Coins has the financial strength and credentials to pay more for any collection, any size, any day we are open.
